About Rebecca
Rebecca Burgess is the founder and director of Fibershed and author of "Harvesting Color." As a leader in regenerative textiles and educator in place-based learning, Rebecca pioneers initiatives reconnecting local economies, plant and animal communities, and textile production. Her vision challenges the fast-fashion paradigm, promoting quality-over-quantity and conscious engagement with the origins of our clothing. Through research, storytelling, and community building, Rebecca revitalizes green jobs, sustainable fashion, and ecological dyeing, advancing local resilience and global change.
In Rebecca's own words
“This is all about dressing human beings at the end of the day, in the most ethical way that we can, while providing jobs for our home communities and keeping farmers and ranchers on the land.”“What a Fibershed is, is taking responsibility for the biological context of your clothes.”“We need this new human-scale technology combined with continuity of the generations.”Where Rebecca works
